Vitec Microgenix Infection Control Solution

Microbes, Bacteria & Pathogens

Microbial Infection Control

Indoor microbial pathways are complicated. The only true solution to microbial hygiene is to constantly sterilise both air and surfaces.

The term infection control is used throughout the healthcare sector and is an integral part of the industry. It relates to all aspects of health, welfare and the protection of personnel.

GP surgeries, care homes, hospitals and all other healthcare services continue to ensure the management and implementation of infection control strategies throughout their premises. It is, therefore, a key component in the provision of their services.

Microbes (germs) within our healthcare are a major issue and are a cause of a high number of hospital stays due to cross infections meaning a huge drain on resources – £2.7 Billion worth in 2017.

A pre-pandemic study of NHS England showed:

  • 834,000 HCAI (healthcare associated infections) cases in 2016/17

  • 9.6 excess days of hospital stay

  • 12,500 deaths as a result of HCAI

  • 3x The cost to manage a patient with HCAI is 3x that of one without

  • 13,900 HCAI cases amongst 810,000 hospitalisations

  • main pathogens isolated: E.coli, S.aureus & C.difficile

  • 79,700 days of absenteeism due to HCAIs

  • £2.7bn  Approximate annual cost of HCAI’s to NHS England

Germs in Healthcare Settings

Germs are found in the healthcare environment through everyday normal activities and are near impossible to avoid through normal cleaning methods.

Examples of environmental sources of germs include: -

  • Dry surfaces in patient care areas (e.g., bed rails, medical equipment, countertops, and tables)

  • Wet surfaces, moist environments, and biofilms (e.g., cooling towers, faucets and sinks, and equipment such as ventilators)

  • Indwelling medical devices (e.g., catheters and IV lines)

  • Dust or decaying debris (e.g., construction dust or wet materials from water leaks)

  • In the Air with Viruses spread through coughs and sneezes with the aerosols staying present for many hours.

Keeping Surfaces Clean and Safe

Surface Self Sanitisation

COVID-19 has created much higher expectations for hygiene and cleanliness in indoor environments. Employees and customers now expect very high standards of cleanliness in the environments they operate in. A dirty environment can result in lower productivity, sales and have an negative impact on reputation

Vitec Microgenix products and services have been designed to allow organisations to exceed hygiene expectations cost-effectively and with minimal disruption to your business.

Studies have shown that Vitec’s technology can improve your hygiene standards by up to 1,000%

Microbial Testing

If you are unsure if you need microbial testing or not–the answer, is you do. Everyone can benefit from knowing what bacteria and pathogens are in your living and working space. For those with health concerns or an increased risk of infection, microbial testing is crucial.

There are two elements to Microbial Testing including Microbial Air Testing and Microbial Surface Testing

Antimicrobial Surface Coating

VSC1000 is an antimicrobial surface coating developed by the team at Vitec Microgenix. VSC1000 is unique and has been granted patents worldwide.

As well as being invisible, odourless, safe and effective for up to 12 months on a single application.  The application and drying time is very quick to minimise disruption.

What’s more, there is virtually no maintenance between annual service visits – and the system pay back can be as little as 12 months. Just think of the potential cost savings if we had control of the Microbe issue.

Key Features:

  • Easily applied using fogging, spraying or wiping
  • Once dry a colourless, odourless and invisible disinfecting layer is present on every surface
  • The layer is permanently bonded, meaning no part of the product will leave the surface
  • The product is safe for use on all surfaces including metals, plastic, glass, carpets and textiles
  • Environmentally-safe
  • No change to existing cleaning routines
  • Kills a broad range of microbes on contact

V-Mass Air Purifications

V-Mass works automatically without the need for re-application for up to 12 months. Indeed, we have installations where protection is still in place after 18 months.  It will sanitise the Air providing up to 99.999% protection against Microbes – including virus spread and re-infections.

V-MASS is different from standard UV systems because it uses a VSC1000 “pre-filter” The inclusion of this

pre-filter improves the efficacy from 70% to 99.999%.

Key Features:

  • Effective: Eradicates microbes rather than trapping them.
  • Energy Efficient: No significant pressure drop meaning no significant energy requirements.
  • Easy to install: Can be retro-fitted into the ductwork of HVAC systems, wall mounted, or floor-standing.
  • Easy to maintain: Requires filter and bulb replacement only once per year.
  • Safe: No release of chemicals into the environment. V-MASS can be used to supply clean air, but can also
  • be used to clean exhaust air. Clean air can be recirculated resulting in significant energy cost saving.

Microgenix - A holistic approach to cleaning and sanitisation

Surface & the Air have to be sanitised as a partnership if the Microbe (Pathogens – including Viruses) are to be successfully controlled.

V-Mass and VSC1000 are the solutions – they work automatically without the need for re-application for up to 12 months. Indeed, we have installations where protection is still in place after 18 months.

They sanitise both the Air and Surface in partnership so allowing 99.999% protection against Microbes – including virus spread and re-infections.

What’s more, there is virtually no maintenance between annual service visits – and the system pay back can be as little as 12 months. Just think of the potential cost savings if we had control of the Microbe issue.

What is UVC You can’t understand the probable UV air purifier dangers if you don’t know what a UV is. UV(ultraviolet) is a light spectrum that’s often invisible that comes with wavelengths. Sunlight also contains ultraviolet rays whose exposure causes sunburn on human skin. This means that UV rays can be dangerous both to you and your pets. There are various light rays that exist today such as gamma and X-ray rays which experts have termed as quite harmful to humans. In the past, UV light was utilised to disinfect water, the air, and surfaces. If you are wondering whether this technology is effective when it comes to enhancing the quality of air in a home and eliminating airborne particles, this article will illustrate how UV air purifiers function and how effective they are when it comes to cleaning the air.

Ventilation plays a vital role in the running of an enclosed workplace. It helps to carry fresh, clean air through the space, keep employees happy and healthy, and maintain the efficiency of the workplace on a daily basis. Regulations surrounding workplace ventilation have been put in place for good reason. When adhered to, any hot, humid or stale air within the space will be replaced with clean air at the right rate. The general rule of thumb is to keep at least 5-8 litres of fresh air within the space, every second for every occupant. This goes for any air that is clean and free of impurities that could cause workers to fall ill or be unhappy with the working environment. The vast majority of enclosed workplaces are required to have a certain amount of fresh air passing through the space. That includes anything from an office space to a commercial kitchen, a spray booth to a hospital, for example. Without proper ventilation, it’s very difficult to get a good amount of clean air into these enclosed spaces, and with many individuals coming and going throughout the day, it’s vital to provide clean air to keep these individuals healthy. There are some exceptions when it comes to enclosed workplaces and the standard ventilation guidelines. For example, a workplace designed for growing mushrooms needs a humid space for the product growth.
