Wearable Personal Dust Monitor to Protect You and Your Employees

Dustlight is a wearable dust alarm and monitoring device that provides visibility to the variability and hotspots of dust exposure.

Importantly, it provides a record of dust exposure during a worker’s day with both STEL (Short-term exposure levels) and TWA (Time weighted average) data available to protect against hazardous dust.

The pre-settable dust types and levels give a traffic light visual warning of dust exposure levels, if the levels are exceeded so protecting the wearer for both health and compliance. This warns the wearer to use the correct Respiratory Protection Equipment, use suitable dust extraction or remove themselves from the area completely so as to protect the workers lungs.

Creating visibility of the invisible inhalable killer dust is absolutely vital within industry, including manufacturing, mining, food industry and especially within construction where the silica (RCS) dust is the biggest risk to construction workers after asbestos.

Dustlight doesn’t just collect dust data, but turns it into compliance-ready reports and actionable insights.

Creates Visibility of the Dust Particle Size

Dustlight not only shows the dust concentration, but also the size of the inhaled particles.

Why this is important:

  • Health relevance: Small particles (such as respirable dust) reach the alveoli and are often more dangerous than larger particles.
  • Strategy optimization: Measures such as extraction or respiratory protection can be evaluated more specifically.
  • Transparency: The particle distribution shows whether, for example, predominantly respirable fine dust or coarse dust is present.

Extended PDF reporting

With the extended PDF reports, Dustlight brings all relevant measurement data clearly into one document. This gives you a sound basis for verifications, audits and internal evaluations at a glance, without any manual effort.

  • Clear presentation of TWA and STEL values
  • Graphics of particle size distributions
  • Listing of all logged events in the reporting period
  • Clearly structured documentation for compliance and ESG reporting
  • Variable graphs for a clear visual of data

Material-Specific Configuration

The Dustlight app offers material adaptations for specific substances, such as the food industry, woodwork, welding and others.

To create this special configuration, our Dustlight measurement engineers carry out a gravimetric and optical measurement of the desired environment in collaboration with the Institute for Hazardous Substances Research and use these measurements to create a material-specific adaptation of our algorithm.

This is then included with the app for ongoing site-specific monitoring and reporting, giving a more exact visibility and data recording of your site's culprit inhalable dust.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is the Dustlight intended for?

The Dustlight has been specially developed for trade, industry and all workplaces where dust is generated. It helps to reduce the health risks of dust exposure and protect employees from the dangers of airborne particles by providing timely warnings and recommending protective measures.

  • Who is the Dustlight intended for?

The Dustlight has been specially developed for trade, industry and all workplaces where dust is generated. It helps to reduce the health risks of dust exposure and protect employees from the dangers of airborne particles by providing timely warnings and recommending protective measures.

  • How is the Dustlight used?

Every employee in dust-prone areas should wear a Dustlight permanently on their body using the enclosed clip or our accessories. The Dustlight is easy to operate with a single button and has an intuitive display that indicates the fine dust concentration in a language-neutral and easy-to-understand way. Green means that the air quality is OK, yellow indicates that caution is required and red warns of dangerously high concentrations of particulate matter above the limit value. The device has Bluetooth connectivity to our app, which provides access to past values and histories, as well as more detailed information on recommended protective measures.

  • Why should I use the Dustlight?

Dust can cause significant health risks and lead to various serious illnesses, especially with prolonged exposure. The Dustlight helps to reduce the number of dust-related occupational illnesses by visualizing the invisible danger and showing employees when protective measures should be taken.

  • What is respirable dust and why is it dangerous?

Respirable dust consists of tiny particles in the air that are in the size range of 4 µm and smaller, as these penetrate deep into the lungs into the alveoli and can lead to respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases and other health problems. The occupational exposure limits therefore relate to this size fraction, which is referred to as respirable dust.

  • Can the Dustlight be adapted to my specific work requirements?

Yes, the threshold values can be adjusted using the app depending on the work and the type of dust present. The respective country recommendations are stored as default values. In the app, the set threshold values are also highlighted in colour in the measurement history.

  • Is the Dustlight an alternative to personal protective equipment such as masks, suction and the like?

The Dustlight is not intended to be an alternative to personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks or dust extractors. Rather, it is a tool for monitoring air quality directly on the body and can therefore support risk assessment and the correct selection and use of PPE. Demand-oriented use can improve understanding and acceptance.

  • How is the Dustlight supplied with power?

The Dustlight has a built-in rechargeable battery that is charged using the included magnetic USB cable. A full charge takes around 3 hours.

  • Can I display or save the dust concentration over time?

The curves can be shown both on the display of the device and via the app. The internal memory of the device is sufficient for around 6 months, and the values can be visualized over the entire measurement period by exchanging data with the app. In addition, the raw data can be exported as a CSV file for your own evaluations.

  • What limit values are stored in the Dustlight?

The information follows a three-stage traffic light system, red, yellow and green. Accordingly, there are two limit values, the lower limit value (green -> yellow) and the upper limit value (yellow -> red). Here we adhere to the workplace limit values valid in Germany. These are defined in the "Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances", TRGS 900. The "general dust limit value" is applied, which is 1250 μg/m3 (upper limit value) and 125 μg/m3 (lower limit value) for respirable dust. These values are preset, but can be adjusted via the app. It should be noted that these limit values are "shift averages", i.e. daily average values. Accordingly, brief exceedances are permitted, so a brief exceedance is not necessarily a violation of the occupational exposure limit values. You can find more information on the occupational exposure limit values and TRGS 900 in our

  • My Dustlight is constantly glowing yellow or red, is it defective?

If your Dustlight does not light up green but is constantly yellow and red, you should first of all assume that there is a very high level of fine and invisible dust in the air. In this case, it was a very good decision to purchase Dustlight, as this pollution has not yet been noticed. Steps should now be taken to reduce dust, such as the increased use of machines with extraction, improved ventilation or the use of air filters. If you still assume that the appliance is faulty, move the appliance to a low-dust location such as in the countryside away from roads, in a car with the ventilation activated or in a sealed container with a lid such as a storage container. If the displayed value does not decrease, please contact us for maintenance and calibration of your device.

  • What is the Dustlight app?

The Dustlight app is the digital platform for the Dustlight device. It makes it possible to view measurement data in real time and monitor it over longer periods of time. In addition to the live view, saved data can be evaluated, trends identified and exposure indicators such as TWA and STEL tracked. For transparent documentation, PDF reports can also be created that clearly display all relevant measured values, particle size distributions and events.

  • On which devices and platforms is the Dustlight app available?

The Dustlight app is available in two versions: the smartphone app and the web app:

    • The smartphone app runs on iOS and Android smartphones or tablets. It connects directly to the device and is ideal for real-time measurements and daily use in the workplace.
    • The web app is accessible via any modern browser and is included in the business plan.

  • How can I upgrade my plan?

Upgrading your plan is straightforward. Simply contact us by phone, email or via our contact form. You will then receive an email from us with all the information and next steps to complete the upgrade.

  • Are PDF reports suitable for ESG or compliance documentation?

Our PDF reports are designed to support internal health and safety documentation and ESG reporting. They include TWA and STEL values, particle size distributions (PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10), exceedance markers, compliance windows and a compliance summary.
